What Happened to American POWs Kept Behind After the Korean War

Top Korean War POW/MIA researcher John Zimmerlee offers these possibilities:

  •  F-51D pilot Newman Golden was black -- 5-9 180 lbs and about 32 when he went missing 17 Oct 51

He is on the list of 71 positively remaining alive and in enemy hands after Big Switch

On 944, 450, and 389 list

  • Repat Edw Smith recalled an AF E7 "Golden" in camp 1 or 4
  •  Thelbert Wormack Black, age 23 , F-51D pilot

On 944, 450, and 389 lists

Seen alive and on ground

John also notes that in at least one report, the Russians seemed to be referring to Lt. Austin W. Beetle as a black man, though his picture indicates he was white and not a good match for the report below.
